Abandoned Houses
People are often puzzled why the abandoned houses that I photograph have been left to rot. Well, for most of the properties it’s a question of accessibility. Many have no roads to them, they are situated in remote, lonely places, miles from any amenities. Often we have to hike across moors, up hills on very rough tracks, on occasions no track. Life for the occupants must have been pretty basic and tough. If someone wanted to renovate them today they would have to live off the grid and invest a huge amount of money to build a road. I like to see them being sucked back into the landscape, sketchy monuments to a different time.
